Dad and son 'tree-trimmers' facing burglary charges
Daytona Beach police said two men who were pretending to be tree-trimmers were actually thieves. Officers arrested the pair in connection with at least 20 burglaries at homes and businesses.
Police said father and son Robert and Branden Maher used their tree-trimming job to case houses before they robbed them.
Investigators said Robert Maher was riding his bike through a beachside neighborhood in Daytona Beach when he approached a resident. Maher claimed to be down on his luck and told the man he was looking for a little tree trimming work.
That seemed innocent enough to residents like Richard Poslusny.
“Said he lived in the neighborhood; he would do it cheap. So he came on a bike and I expected him to come back with a truck or something,” said Poslunsy. “He came back with a bike and his son."
The father and son did the trimming for about $30. Poslusny even gave Robert Maher a little extra cash because Maher said he needed to get a saw out of hock. But it turned out to be a lie. The father and son were casing his home to eventually rob it.
