For guys, it's a hair-raising issue
As the aphorism goes, gentlemen prefer blondes, marry a brunette and have always had a thing for a redhead.
Do women have a preference in men's hair colour? Or style for that matter?
Getting a haircut can be complicated for a guy. Don't misunderstand. I enjoy going to the barber. And I'm a very loyal customer.
My first barber was Dick. He worked out of a little white frame building stuck to the front of his house on Grand Ave.
I always thought it was neat that when his wife came out for any reason, you could look through the door right into their living room. They didn't have much privacy.
I would ride my bike there after school and wait with the big men for my turn. Seventy-five cents a cut. Dick was a nice man. He always gave me a stick of gum for good behaviour. Juicy Fruit. Still my favourite.
I left Chatham in 1971 to go to university in London and soon found Rainer. He was one of a trio of stylists known as the Three Musketeers. Other than two hiatuses when I lived elsewhere, Rainer cut my hair for over 35 years until he retired recently.
