Dolce and Gabbana say Italian tax authorities 'thieves' as they face new battle
The designers, who count Madonna, Scarlett Johansson and Naomi Campbell among their clients, have previously called the charge "absurd" and said it was based on "a completely abstract calculation" of their companies' market value. They deny all the allegations.
The case was dismissed by a court in Milan in April this year but the Supreme Court in Rome has overturned that decision, meaning the business partners will have to return to court.
A new hearing date in the case, in which the pair face charges of tax evasion and defrauding the Italian revenue agency, has yet to be announced.
The allegations first emerged in 2009 following an investigation by the Guardia di Finanza, Italy's tax police.
The designers received messages of support on Twitter, with fans urging them to fight the allegations.
But there was also criticism from Italians who said they should not have moved part of their business abroad.
