Run of tough opponents ends with Griffons
After five straight losses to the top five teams in the MIAA to start league play, Northwest Missouri State begins the 2012 portion of its schedule with a team just down the road that's struggling every bit as bad as they are.
Missouri Western comes in at 2-8 overall and 0-5 in the MIAA, having lost six straight and four league games by at least 18 points.
It's futility has been matched only by Northwest (2-10, 0-5) which has lost seven straight.
The loser of tonight's 5:30 p.m. game at Looney Fieldhouse will have last place all to themselves and become the lone remaining winless team in the conference.
"It's a good thing it's Western," said Northwest Missouri State head coach Gene Steinmeyer who would've feared a letdown otherwise. "It's a good thing it's not SBU or Southern. We always get up for Western. It doesn't matter if we're 0-5 or 5-0, we'll get up for them. That helps us out."
