The week-long getaway is a bereavement camp for those trying to cope with the loss of a family member.
Children and teens are encouraged to remember their loved ones, but remember to enjoy life at the same time.
Kaitlyn's mother, a hair-stylist, died of breast cancer about a year ago.
"I really miss her right now," said the brown-eyed girl, whose last name is being withheld by the Daily News.
But the second-grader also spoke of frequent trips to the New York Botanical Garden with her mother.
"We want kids to know it's okay to have fun and to laugh," said Sherry Schachter, director of Bereavement Services at Calvary Hospital and Hospice, located in Morris Park. "It doesn't mean you're not grieving or you're over the death."
Following an activity such as watching an emotional slideshow of their deceased relatives set to music, the youngsters dive right into playing Olympics-style games with water balloons, Schachter said.
