A world breast-feeding event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 27 at Terrebonne General Medical Center’s OutReach Center inside Southland Mall, 5953 W. Park Ave., Houma. The center has collaborated with the Bayou Region La Leche League to present the 2011 World Breastfeeding Week Celebration. The theme of the event is Breastfeeding = Communication. The theme recognizes the importance of communication in supporting and encouraging mothers throughout their breastfeeding experience — giving them the information they need to be successful. Guest speakers include Dr. Bernard Ferrer, a pediatrician with Bayou Pediatrics; Sara Guidry, a local dentist; and Liz Hoffman and Julia Bourg, both registered nurses. The event is free and open to the public.
A diabetes program, Dining Out With Diabetes Louisiana Style, is scheduled at 3 p.m. Aug. 29 at Terrebonne General Medical Center’s OutReach Center inside Southland Mall, 5953 W. Park Ave., Houma. People with diabetes aren’t going to be eating at home and preparing their own meals everyday. Dining out at restaurants is part of American culture. By planning ahead and ordering wisely, you can have an enjoyable dining experience with diabetes. The free program features a program from Amanda Valence, a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator with TGMC’s Diabetes Management Center. Valence will educate you on how to stay on your meal plan when dining out. To RSVP, call 858-7020.
