Swalwell woman shaves head for cancer charity
“Unfortunately, Jean passed away when I was 49 and I actually shaved my head then for charity as well.
“Sadly, my niece, Jean’s daughter, died last year, also of lung cancer. She was only 38 and she left two lovely girls, who are nine and 12. It’s then I decided I wanted to do something again to raise money for a cancer charity.
“I chose the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and I decided to shave my head again, although I’m a bit older this time.
“My hair was quite long, long enough to get curlers in it, but I just thought, hey, it’ll grow back, and it’s for a good cause. I wasn’t really nervous about it. I knew a lot of people would have a laugh watching me, as well.
“I charged people to take a snip. I let people there cut a piece of my hair off but they had to pay for it and the money would go to the charity.”
