Where's Judge Judy? Will her cantankerous comebacks be coming back or not?
Like most shows that run year-round, the feisty judge merely needed her usual vacation to build up her vitriol for another year of scoundrels, scammers and scumbags who feel the need to bare their faults to 10 million viewers.
After all, it's a tough job when you have to work five days a month for only $45 million a year (almost that of Jay Leno and David Letterman put together, according to a New York Times story earlier this year). That comes out to about $85,000 for every case she hears, give or take a few thousand.
But, then again, to TV execs she is like that statue of Lady Justice who gives a sly wink at the start of every show -- pure gold. In her first four years, her ratings soared from an anemic 1.5 to a 9.3. She has had ups and downs since then, but the show remains the highest-rated nationally syndicated reality courtroom series. According to her agent, she consistently beat Oprah in the ratings during Winfrey's final season.
