Samurai Shopper | The Razor's Edgy
Though I may be waxing nostalgic, waxing is not my thing. I want a clean shave below my knees, and all the shaving accoutrements that go with it: a brush on a stand, soft silky shaving cream, a styptic pencil. MiN has its own ivory-horned badger brush ($65) that sits on a stately stand ($18), as well as cream-cheese-textured shaving creams and hard soapy pucks in assorted crisp scents and one or two in fanciful colors.
MiN’s owner, Chad Murawczyk, offered a full-on tutorial about how to attack the stubble on my legs without attacking my legs. “Don’t push, just guide,” he cautioned. “The blade does the work. Hold the razor at 30 degrees from your skin.” He demonstrated on his face, which had not seen a razor in many a moon. “Dab a little cream on a spot and create a lather with the wet brush: the friction lifts stubble away from the skin for a cleaner pass.” A pass is one-blade stroke; one pass with a safety razor, that is. The multiblade disposables only aggravate bumps and ingrown hairs.
